Two dated public examples
JRC Outdoor Services displayed a range of $100–$400 per stump on its Macomb Township page. Dungrove Tree Service, which lists Southeast Michigan locations, stated that most jobs average around $6 per inch across the widest part. These are the providers' own published examples, not prices from this site, not equivalent scopes, and not a Macomb County market average.

What changes the quote
| Factor | Question to settle |
|---|---|
| Stump size | The widest ground-level area and root flare may matter more than the cut surface. |
| Quantity | Multiple stumps at one accessible property may be priced differently from separate visits. |
| Access | Gate width, slopes, steps, soft ground, and obstacles affect equipment choice. |
| Depth and roots | Deeper grinding and separately scoped surface roots add work. |
| Cleanup | Chip hauling, backfill, topsoil, grading, and seeding should be listed rather than assumed. |
Ask for one written scope
- State the number of stumps and approximate widest diameter.
- Give the narrowest gate width and describe the route from driveway to stump.
- Say what you want to do with the area afterward.
- Ask which cleanup, surface-root, and restoration items are included.
- Confirm utility-locating responsibilities before scheduling ground work.
Compare the result with grinding versus full removal before accepting a scope.
